Track Us!

On this page, there are a few ways to keep up with us:
A quick note on the tracker data: It is not intended as fodder for further fretting. As a matter of fact, the tracker data you see below isn't even really part of our safety plan: it's just to satiate curiosity for those wondering where in the world we are. For more about our safety plan, see A Note on Safety.

Nick's Garmin InReach data

Since Spot started having difficulty seeing satellites, we added Nick's DeLorme InReach to the website. To see things a bit more easily, collapse the menu bar on the left side of the map by clicking the arrow on the line between the menu bar and the map itself. Looks like this:

Here's Ryan's data, with manual updates from the Garmin GPSmap64s:

Daily log via Google Sheets

Rather than just cold, hard maps, this spreadsheet contains a few personal notes on each day's travels, as well as some fun data crunching, as spreadsheets are wont to do.

  2. Looks like you might make it to Dead Horse tonight! Your Lassie didn't ping for at least two hours, but when I checked again at midnight (KS time) you had shot way up there! Long time in the saddle today, but I'm sure you're anxious to get to the TOP! Looking forward to hearing about your ride from Fairbanks tomorrow!

  3. Yoo-hoo... Where are you? Lassie is not pinging! I think you might be at Dead Horse by now!

    1. Yep, hoped it would reflect our current status better: car-bound. Tomorrow: back to the little green motorcycle!

  10. Cano Rd -- What a nifty little back road!

  11. Oh, now it says Robert Campbell Hwy. Hmmm... wonder which road the little green motorcycle is really on.

  12. Ross River is beautiful! Did you spend some time there? Your LGM hasn't traveled very far today.

  13. hrm...the website isn't letting me "Reply" to specific posts currently. Not sure why.

We left Faro this morning around 11. After some deliberation, opted to travel together directly to Watson Lake. (As opposed to one or both of us going the round-about way back through Whitehorse.) The South Canol Road, unfortunately was listed as "closed/impassable" on the Yukon 511 website. The road we took, though, ended up being a fun time: all gravel from Faro to Watson Lake. We stopped in Ross River for gas and met a fellow who invited us to his house, where we paused briefly. I, then, let Nick go ahead while I explored the northern tip of the South Canol Road longingly. Then I caught up with him and we carried on to Watson Lake, where we're now lodged in the Air Force Lodge (http://airforcelodge.com/): oldest building in Watson Lake!

  16. Hey Ryan, I'm slow but excited now to be following you on your journey and living precariously through your exciting adventure, hoping to not have a heart attack along the way.
    God speed, my friend!

  17. I've been thinking about you guys today because I figured you'd be getting into the US today. It's cool to see that it looks like you made it to Yellowstone. In 2013 I drove through Yellowstone and two buffalo walked on the side of the road next to my car as I was driving. So, watch out for the buffalo!

  19. It's just amazing to me to watch your LGM traveling all this distance. It looks so simple from my computer screen, but I imagine it's both fun and tiring... and hot! Looks like you will make your goal for today... if not further. I can't find the city where you plan to meet up with your circus friends.

  20. Oh, I was looking for "El Periplo", but I think that was the name of their performance in Guadlajara. Is that where you will connect with them again? I must have missed the KC juggling festival where they performed. I don't remember them. Check if they remember me. (-;

  21. What's the time difference where you are now?

  22. We're back to wifi only (with rare exceptions), so connection will be spotty.

Fun and tiring sounds accurate. We checked into the El Camino Real hotel here last night, had a bite to eat, and I crashed early. It had been an excellent day of driving, though, particularly the stretch from Chihuahua to Parral.

"El Periplo" is the circus fest they host every year. Guadalajara is the city. I was thinking y'all were at that fest, Mom, but may be wrong. The performance act was called Los Hermanos Bravissimo.

We're still an hour behind y'all back home.

  23. I love the daily logs! They're VERY educational. I get to learn about things like "fervent rain" and "gnarly switchbacks" getting lost. All kinds of things that somehow don't make it into our personal conversations... ;)
    Adventure, indeed!!

By the way, I think the term "dead batteries" is code for "the folks back home will kill us if they see this road."
